The domestic market for personal mobility equipment, which includes electric scooters, mopeds, unicycles, and hoverboards, is on the rise. According to Association of Kazakhstan Auto Business (ACAB), in four months of 2021, the import of such equipment is already 36% from last year's sales volume.

After rapid growth in 2018 and 2019, with over 100 units imported into the country annually, 000 saw a sharp drop to 77 036 units per year, largely due to the pandemic.

In the medium term, sales of electric scooters show stable dynamics, however, uncertainty at the legislative level and market saturation will make adjustments to this process. Just a year ago, electric scooters were going to be included in the Law on Road Traffic, recognizing them as means of personal mobility and clearly defining the rights and responsibilities of drivers. But this issue has not yet been fully resolved.

Compared to electric scooters, the results of sales of motorcycles that are subject to registration and receipt of State Registration Certificate are much more modest. In January-April 2021 in Kazakhstan, a total of 744 motorcycles imported this year 2 272 units With engine volume over 50 cm3. Most new and used motorcycles, as well as large mopeds, imported mainly from China, are driven without license plates. Thus, in 2019-2020, the import of motor vehicles was 4-5 times higher than the number of vehicles registered.

Among the equipment registered according to all rules, affordable products of the Russian-Chinese brand are in the lead Racer (217 units), Chinese Peda in second position (49 units), Belarusian-Chinese motorcycles MINSK and Japanese Yamaha  by 46 motorcycles. Most new motorcycles are registered in Almaty, East Kazakhstan region and Almaty region.

A distinctive feature of the motorcycle segment in the automotive market of the Republic of Kazakhstan is clearly visible seasonal activity in the spring and summer months. The level of acquisition of new and used motorcycles and other equipment in spring and summer increases almost 3 times compared to the winter and autumn months. Thus, in the next few months there will be an increase in the number of motorized vehicles on the roads of Kazakhstan.

The total fleet of motorcycles and mopeds with an engine capacity of over 50 cm3, registered with the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan, is 61 670 units Almost 78% of the total number are motorcycles over 20 years old (47 841 units), equipment from the moment of release, which has passed from 3 to 10 years - 6 240 units, from 10 to 20 – 4 686 units, up to 3 years – 2 287moto. U 616 motorcycles, the year of manufacture is not indicated.

More than half of all registered motorcycles in the country are Soviet motorcycles Ural и IL (21 551 и 15 278 units, respectively). Next on the list: Honda (2 708 units), Yamaha  (2 529 units), "Ant" (2 416 units), Racer (2 295 units), Java (1 907 units), Suzuki (1536 units), Kawasaki (1 165 units) and Dnipro (1 163 units). In addition, in Kazakhstan they are registered 463 motorcycle BMW450 of american Harley Davidson и 216 Italian Ducati.

Most of the motorcycles are registered in the southeast, east and north of the country. 40%of all motorcycles are registered in Almaty region (8 899 units), East Kazakhstanfields (8 645 units) and Almaty (7 772 units). Rounding out the top five regions is SKO и Akmola area (5 009 и 4 738 units motorcycles, respectively). The fewest motor vehicles are in the west of the country – in Atyrau (1 153 units) and Mangystau area(437 units).
