As of January 1, 2025, the bus fleet was distributed by fuel type as follows: 45,6% diesel, 39,8% gasoline, 14,1% mixed-fuel (including gas), and just under 1% electric. Over the two years from January 1, 2023, to January 1, 2025, the share of mixed-fuel and electric buses in the fleet increased by 42%, reflecting the industry's growing interest in cleaner solutions.
The largest number of "green" vehicles—gas-powered and electric—are in Almaty, followed by the Mangystau region and Shymkent. In other regions, diesel vehicles remain predominant, driven by the active purchase of conventional models as part of fleet renewal.
The age distribution of the fleet has also noticeably "rejuvenated": the share of buses less than ten years old increased by 28% over the past two years, while the share of "veterans" older than ten years decreased by 20%. Most gasoline-powered buses that have been in service for over ten years are gradually being phased out, making way for more modern buses.
The fleet renewal and greening programs initiated in 2023–2024 are already yielding tangible results: rolling stock upgrades are improving the reliability and comfort of transportation, while the expansion of charging and gas station infrastructure will further the industry's carbon footprint reduction and improve transport accessibility in cities and regions.
