* Car sales in Kazakhstan increased by a third in January
* In January, Kazakhstanis spent 26,6 billion tenge (81,4 million US dollars) on the purchase of new cars, trucks and buses
*Top five account for 71,7% of all sales
January is traditionally a “lazy” month on the domestic new car market, however, despite the calendar factor, sales increased by more than 36,9% compared to January 2017 and in numerical terms amounted to 3255 units (not including export).
The growth was primarily caused by the low base of the first month of last year and indicates a steady recovery of the automobile market; the forecast for growth in 2018 at the level of 15-20% remains relevant. January demonstrates multidirectional dynamics from brand to brand, mainly with a “plus” sign, which is important - traditional leaders made the greatest contribution than in the same period last year.
According to calculations by ACAB analysts, Ravon showed the greatest growth in the top three leaders; the strong start of the relatively young brand laid in 2017 continues: dealers sold 492 cars (+223.7% compared to the previous year). The dynamics of Lada and Toyota are more modest - 785 units. (+143,03%) and 665 units. (+69,2%), respectively. Hyundai shows +33,9% - 237 cars sold. Fifth position is held by GAZ commercial vehicles - 155 vehicles (-8.8%).
The TOP-10 most successful brands in January also included Kia (133 units; +11.8%), Nissan (106 units; +51,4%), UAZ (73 units; -27%), Lexus (69 units .; -5,5%) and Volkswagen (58 units; - 41,4%).
There are changes in the top ten best-selling models: in January, the leadership was taken by Ravon Nexia R3 (241 units), Lada Granta (216 units) and Lada 4×4 (212 units) rounded out the TOP-3. In fourth and fifth positions are Toyota – Land Cruiser Prado (191 units) and Camry (181 units). Next on the list are Ravon R4 (159 units), Lada Largus (127 units), Lada Vesta (110 units), GAZ 3302 (87 units) and Kia Sportage (86 units).
Anar MAKASHEVA,
Vice President of ACAB:
“The first month of the passive selling season, which typically lasts the entire first quarter of the calendar year, is encouraging. Of course, so far the figures look quite modest in historical comparison, but there is no denying that the market is recovering and moderate positive dynamics can be expected throughout 2018. According to ACAB forecasts, in 2018 the growth of the car market will be 15-20%. An additional tranche will make a significant contribution to the passenger vehicle lending program at 4 percent per annum and the recycling program.”
