Kazakhstan has begun large-scale installation of a network of charging stations for electric cars

In Almaty and Astana, today, through the joint efforts of the ROP Operator and the Association of Kazakhstan Auto Business (AKAB), with the active support of the akimats of 2 cities, the first charging stations of the pilot project have been installed in Astana and Almaty with the attraction of private investment.

Currently, the issue of creating an infrastructure of electric filling stations is being actively discussed with the Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Kazakhstan as part of a pilot project - to organize infrastructure for electric transport in Almaty and Astana, 100 fast charging electric filling stations will be installed by the end of the year. Another 20 charging stations with an instant charging system (up to 30 minutes) will be installed along the Astana-Almaty republican highway.

The capital's first EPSs were installed on the territory of the airport and the Nurly Zhol railway station. In Almaty, a new electric power station was installed in the central part of the city.

New electric charging stations comply with international standards IEC 62196-2 and IEC 61851-1 and are capable of charging all electric vehicles currently existing in the world in a time of 1 to 4 hours. The charger combines all existing AC charging modes. At the same time, 4 electric vehicles can be charged at one electric charging station. The power of the installed EPS is 51 kW each.

For safety, there is differential protection against current leakage, emergency power off, blocking of the type 2 “Mennekes” socket during charging, as well as current sensors for automatic power off after charging.

At the moment, the total number of electric vehicles in Kazakhstan is more than 200 units. So far they are intended mainly for movement within one city, but further development of the network of fast charging stations will make it possible to make long trips of more than several hundred kilometers and intercity trips.

It is also planned to implement the production of electric vehicles in the Republic of Kazakhstan. The pilot production of electric vehicles has already been tested at the Kostanay plant. Using the produced test vehicles, the research group conducted large-scale studies on the possibility of operating electric vehicles in the climatic and infrastructural conditions of our country. Work is underway to reduce the cost of an electric vehicle for the end buyer.
