Kazakhstan will ban the import of “gray” spare parts for Mercedes-Benz

The Mercedes-Benz trademark will soon be included in the customs register of intellectual property. Interfax-Kazakhstan reports this with reference to the President of the Association of Kazakhstan Automotive Business (AKAB) Andrey Lavrentyev.

“In the near future, the Mercedes-Benz trademark is planned to be included in the customs register of intellectual property objects. The BMW trademark is already included in the register of intellectual property. This was done two years ago by KMC Astana-Motors,” Lavrentiev said.

According to him, over time, all automobile brands represented in Kazakhstan will be included in the customs register of intellectual property.

“The fight against the counterfeit spare parts market will continue, and AKAB will monitor this process, doing everything possible to ensure that investors who come to Kazakhstan have the right to protect their brand. If we limit or impede the exercise of investors' legitimate rights to protect a trademark, the consequences will be an outflow of investment, unhealthy competition and consumer deception. Therefore, we need to consider this issue more deeply, and not regard it as “official dealers or distributors are trying to earn more money, raise prices,” says Andrey Lavrentyev.

The President of the Association clarified that no one prohibits the sale of duplicate spare parts. But you need to inform the buyer that this is a duplicate, and not sell it as an original.

Currently, the customs register of intellectual property in Kazakhstan includes the trademarks BMW, Toyota, Lexus, Nissan, Infiniti, Subaru and Ssang Yong.
