Car registration in 2016

In 2016, registrations amounted to 882 vehicles (primary data from the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan). ACAB predicted registrations at 830-000 units. The total number of car registrations last year decreased by 847% compared to 000 (4 units), since at the beginning of 2015, due to the difference in exchange rates, there was an excessive accumulation of cars from Russia on the secondary automobile market. This also affected sales of the official new car market in both 920 and 835.

However, the end of last year was marked by an increase in the number of registrations compared to the first quarter of 2016. Therefore, we can talk about a trend towards a gradual restoration of the entire car market in the Republic of Kazakhstan.

Registrations of new vehicles (up to 3 years old) amounted to 112 units during the year.

Traditionally, for many years now, the leader in the car market of the Republic of Kazakhstan has been TOYOTA, with LADA in second place. Moreover, if in 2015 the shares of these brands in the total number of registrations were 16,38% and 16,18%, respectively, then in 2016 LADA lost 3%, its share was 13,39%, while TOYOTA maintained its position at 16,31%. In total, there are more than 500 brands from different countries of production on the Kazakhstan market. The TOP 10 priorities of Kazakhstanis include TOYOTA, LADA (VAZ), VOLKSWAGEN, MERCEDES-BENZ, AUDI, GAZ, NISSAN, MITSUBISHI, HYUNDAI, BMW.

In 2016, the largest number of car registrations was recorded in the Almaty region - 121 units of all years of production (+782% compared to 10), in second place is the South Kazakhstan region - 2015 units (-117% compared to 337, a decline from 4st to 2015nd place in the overall ranking), third place belongs to Almaty - 1 units (+2% compared to last year).

The largest share in the automotive market of the Republic of Kazakhstan is occupied by passenger cars. In 2016, the level of registrations of passenger cars was 90,33% of the total (in 2015 – 86,16%). At the same time, passenger cars older than 10 years predominate - their share is 62,09%, the share of registrations of cars from 3 to 10 years is 25,37%, and new cars have a share of 12,54% in the total number of registrations of passenger vehicles. These figures demonstrate great potential for updating the vehicle fleet of Kazakhstan, and, accordingly, increasing the level of sales of new cars made in Kazakhstan.

In 2015, the government abandoned state regulation of prices for AI-92/93 gasoline, and in August 2016 - for diesel fuel. The cost of the most popular brand of gasoline is steadily rising. In this regard, there is a tendency to transfer vehicles to alternative fuels, in particular gas.
