In the first quarter, Kazakhstanis spent 168 billion tenge (US$429 million) on the purchase of new cars, trucks and buses.
The Kazakhstani car market, after relatively quiet growth in January and February, grew by almost a quarter in March. According to Association of Kazakhstan Auto Business (AKAB) sales increased by 40% - before 6 377 passenger cars and light commercial vehicles, as well as 493 units of trucks, special equipment and buses. Cumulative sales in the first quarter reached 17 846 units (+ 30 % to last year).

“As expected, March was marked by a surge in sales growth of 40% compared to the result of March last year. First of all, the demand is associated with the population’s need for cars; the Kazakhstan market is not saturated, as well as with expectations of rising prices against the backdrop of a weakening national currency. However, at the end of March, registrations in the country were frozen due to quarantine and closed special service centers in the country. The restrictions have stimulated dealers to develop the possibility of remote sales, while at the same time the state is doing everything to launch online registration for primary registration. Obviously, April will be difficult for the auto business, but productive for future development,” — comments the vice-president of ACAB Anar MAKASHEVA.

Based on the results of the first quarter, the greatest growth is demonstrated by Ravon, new models have appeared in the line, the production of which has been established in Kostanay, and soon the entire line will be sold in the Republic of Kazakhstan under the brand Chevrolet. In January-March 2020 it was sold 1 873 auto, compared to 10 cars in the same period last year.
