The average bill for imported cars increased by 10,93% in January-April 2018 compared to the same period in 2017. About it LS reported the Association of Kazakhstan Automotive Business (AKAB).

The organization clarified that now on average a foreign car costs 10,8 million tenge (9,7 million tenge in January-April 2017).

The receipt for Kazakhstan-made cars during this period increased by 3,57% from 4,6 million tenge in 2017 to 4,8 million tenge in January-April 2018.

Thus, it was 55,55% cheaper than the imported one. Meanwhile, AKAB clarified that the difference between the prices of imported and Kazakh cars of the same brand can be up to 20%. The thing is that domestic automakers have tax and customs benefits, which allows manufacturers to pursue a more flexible pricing policy and react less sharply to external factors.

“The average bill for Kazakhstan-made cars increased due to the fact that in 2018 new models of domestically produced cars became available, such as the Hyundai Tucson in a new body (602 units versus 170 units in January-April 2017) and Kia Sportage (427 units versus 73 units in January-April 2017),” explained AKAB.

The organization added that the increase in costs for imported cars is also associated with an increase in sales of upper-middle class cars, such as the Toyota Camry (961 units, versus 885 units in 2017). Sales of such cars as Toyota LC Prado (509 units versus 234 units), Nissan Qashqai (113 units versus 65 units), Lexus NX (81 units versus 40 units), Volkswagen Tiguan (65 units versus 41 units) doubled. Subaru Outback (81 units versus 15 units), Toyota Corolla (436 units versus 185 units) and Mitsubishi Outlander (72 units versus 51 units) also showed significant sales growth.

At the same time, ACAB noted that prices since the beginning of the year, both for locally produced cars and for imported cars, have not changed. Since there were no sharp currency fluctuations or other market or economic factors.

Although, compared to last year, prices have traditionally been revised to take into account inflation, an increase in the monthly calculation indicator in the new year, exchange rates and many other factors. On average, prices have increased by 2-5% depending on the make and model of the car. At the same time, the cost of cars imported in 2017 remained unchanged.
